Family Biking

Spring is (finally) coming guys, my favorite time of year! Our family loves spending time bike riding together. We have made many great memories while riding our bikes and look forward to continuing that tradition. Getting bikes and all the gear that comes along with it can get expensive so I wanted to share some biking gear that we have loved and some tips to finding it for a little less.

  • We have LOVED the i bert bike seat. It is a front mount bike seat that is rated up to 38 lbs. We love this seat for many reasons but #1 is its way more fun for the kids and the adults to be able to see. The rider get a good view of the scenery (rather than your back) and we could easily see the boys reactions.  We started our boys in this seat at 6-8 months old. Milo was a lot bigger baby than Luca and could comfortably hold his head + helmet up at 6 months, Luca took awhile longer. The i-bert retails for around $99. I haven't seen them on sale very often, but we purchased ours via sportschalet.com. I was able to find a promo code I paid around $65
  • This Dotty Nutcase Helmet is the cutest helmet I've ever seen (although I am much too cheap to pay for it) Lately, I've seen great deals on baby and kids helmets at Ross and on Clearance at Target. When we bought Milo's first helmet we had a hard time finding one small enough, as he was only 6 months old. This Giro Rodeo helmet is what finally ended up working out, and we were able to pass it down to Luca.
  • My husband and I both have Electra beach cruisers, I can't say enough good things about them. The quality is excellent and the designs are super fun + cute. So, when it came time to get Milo his first bike we knew we wanted to get him an Electra Mini Rat Rod. Electra bikes are more pricey than some, but you definitely get what you pay for and this will be something that we will be able to pass down to Luca. We have been able to purchase all three of our Electra bikes gently used from Craigslist for great prices.
  • Every bike needs a cute bell!
  • We have a Trek bike trailer that we purchased at a yard sale while I was pregnant with Milo. Jordan was a little eager to get riding with our little one ;) When it comes to bike trailers they can get pretty expensive, but I will say that this is one area that buying quality pays off. Trailers can be used for many years by all ages of kids and a quality one will last. Personally, I'd search craigslist and yard sales for a gently used, higher end trailer rather than buying a cheap trailer.
  • This WeeHoo Trailer is on my husbands wish list, even though Milo can still fit comfortably in our current trailer this trailer lets kids get in on the action a little more, kids can sit back and relax or pedal all while being securely fastened into the trailer. Its perfect for longer rides and single track trails. It is rated for ages 2 up to 65 lbs.

Have Fun + Happy Biking!

Nike 'Free 5' $19.97 at Nordstrom

I was so excited to find these because Milo has a pair of Nike Free shoes that he loves but are in need of replacing. I can't bring myself to spend $65 on a pair of shoes for him since he's hard on them and out grows them so quickly. I got his first pair at a yard sale in perfect for condition for $10... but this deal is almost as good, if not better. Nike 'Free 5' are marked down to $19.97 from $62, thats 65% off! Plus if you use e-bates you get 6% cash back on Nordstrom purchases. Sizes are limited but there are also many other styles that are being price matched.
